7 Things Your Doctor Forgot To Tell You...a guide for optimal health by Dr Warren Sipser and his television presenter wife, Andi Lew.

Is prevention really better than cure?

May 2008, studies have shown in Victoria alone, over 135,000 hospital incidents have occurred from medical mistakes.¹ Kylie Minogue recently revealed in an Ellen Degeneres interview that she was initially misdiagnosed with her breast cancer! Heath Ledger’s tragic accidental death by overdose was due to a cocktail of prescribed drugs. 7 Things exposes the dangers of our past attitudes of ‘if it isn’t broke, then don’t fix it.’ Prevention is about being proactive. It's a paradigm shift from the medical model which is reactive, to a proactive approach - wellness. 7 Things is an essential scientific guide with 7 easy things you can do to live a greater quality of life. World-renowned Dr John Demartini, Contributor of the International Bestseller, THE SECRET and author of the multiple bestseller Count Your Blessings has written the foreword to 7 Things after an inspired visit to Melbourne where he met with the authors: "You are about to go on a vital journey of health and wellness education. Andi Lew & Dr Warren Sipser share from their hearts, their training, and from direct personal experiences, their wisdom as individuals dedicated to a cause of bringing you and your loved ones, and for that matter humanity, to a new and more elevated state of human potentiality and possibility.’
"7 Things allows you to easily flip open to a chapter that may be of interest or enjoy the whole journey. With the wellness revolution in full swing, this guide is timely as it confirms what millions of people around the world are already doing; searching for answers to better health. We have been caring for thousands of people in our wellness centres and after years of suggestions that we must share the information in a book, we can finally share our secrets to optimal health. Knowing we can assist others to achieve a greater quality of life, is what inspires us," say the authors.

INTRODUCTION
DON’T BLAME YOUR DOCTOR!
It’s a paradigm shift - from sick care to well care!

‘The Doctor of the future will give no medicine; rather he will educate his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the prevention of disease.’
Thomas Edison

We’d like to begin with an apology. We are so sorry that you didn’t know all the secret information we are about to share with you… sooner. Your doctor doesn’t bear the entire responsibility for forgetting to tell you the 7 secrets to staying healthy, as the title of this book suggests — maybe you also forgot to ask them. Perhaps all along the quality of your life has been dependent on the quality of questions you ask. High quality questions create a high quality life.
Now, these 7 secrets are not hidden; for some years they have been available to anyone motivated and diligent enough to search them out, but they were like the scattered pieces of a puzzle. Not until now have they all been brought together to reveal the total picture of what true health is, and how to achieve and maintain it. The truth contradicts much of what we have been led to believe for so long.
We go to our doctor when we are sick, but where do we go when we’re ‘well’? What, see a health professional when you’re well?! It may sound odd, but it’s actually very wise because it’s so much easier to stay well than to get well. For so long now we have been conditioned to work ever longer and harder, to ignore warning signs and suffer in silence or take a pill and soldier on, that we have forgotten what health really is.
More and more people at ever-younger ages have become reliant on often unnecessary drugs. ‘Selling sickness’, the false belief that illness is a natural and unavoidable state for human beings, has become an unquestioned truth, fostered by a multi-billion dollar industry which has controlled the mainstream health profession for decades.
But despite the proliferation of new and powerful drugs on the market, diseases such as cancer and heart disease grow more prevalent with each passing year, obesity is fast becoming the number one health risk, and depression and other psychological imbalances are afflicting more people than ever before. No matter how advanced medicine becomes, sometimes waiting for symptoms to appear before reacting is just too late. The chemical and surgical intervention movements have had a good long run, but they just haven’t delivered what we all hoped and believed they could give us — health!
Since the dawn of the new millennium; wellnesshas itself become a new multi-billion dollar industry. The old ways have fallen short of their promise, and increasing millions of people are now exploring alternative therapies, attending seminars and buying books on healing, searching the internet for solutions to their unanswered questions. It’s a wellness revolution fuelled by the quest for anti-aging, health and vitality. People who once wouldn’t have thought twice about popping a sleeping pill or pain killer are astonished to discover the effectiveness of techniques such as herbs or auto-relaxation, or that chiropractic is actually 250[1] times safer than an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory!
The pendulum has swung for so long toward surgery and drugs, and now it is inevitably swinging just as hard the other way – toward wellness. Rather than merely being healed of illnesses, people want health; they are sick and tired of being sick and tired!
In response to this tidal wave of social awareness toward vitality and self-determination, the business culture has made changes that would have been unthinkable in the past:
• Weight-loss is a multi-billion dollar industry, with gyms, diets, personal fitness trainers, books, calorie control centres, exercise and nutrition DVDs, etc.
• Nutritional companies and food manufacturers are going ‘preservative free’.
• International fast food chains have added ‘healthy’ options with reduced fats, sugar and salt.
• Sales of Botox for beauty and Viagra for virility are booming.
• Proliferating ‘lifestyle’ businesses and magazines promote quality of life.
• Workplace health and safety officers are being appointed within companies to monitor conditions of employment.
• Organizations are investing in yoga or meditation rooms for their employees as the link between health and productivity becomes common knowledge.
• Employees are offered company sponsored massages during lunch breaks.
• Multinational companies offer employees cash incentives for healthy, preventative life styles.
• In the U.S alone; sales of soy foods reached $3.2 Billion in2001. A 16.9% increase since 2000. (Spins, 2002)
• The demand for wellness and prevention is so great that even pharmaceutical companies are selling vitamins and supplements.
• Chiropractors like Dr Fabricio Mancini; author of Chicken Soup for the Chiropractic Soul and other leaders in the over 100-year-old profession lead this return to wellness origins. Some no longer use the word ‘patient’ as it refers to ‘one who suffers’. Changing this label has changed the whole perspective on sickness vs wellness.

It appears the western world has decided that simply not having symptoms just isn’t good enough anymore! We have collectively created a worldwide wellness revolution through our demand for true health. So if you are tired of the drug merry-go-round with all its side effects, and if you would love to have youth and vitality without intervention, this book is for you!

Prevention is better than cure

There is a revolution taking place, and you are part of it. The questioning of medical authorities has arisen because not only are more people becoming sicker, but health care costs are rising beyond the ability of most individuals and even governments to pay. The physical, social and financial costs are just too high, and spiralling further out of control. The current generation wants to take back control of their own health, and thus the wellness revolution was born.
So, it’s time to abandon the overuse of invasive surgery and the myriad of drugs that are being prescribed, and find a new way! These 7 Things make so much sense, and if you apply the principles glowing health can be achieved easily, without side effects! As an added bonus to creating ‘optimal health’, you may decrease the effects of aging and take years off your appearance.
‘Aging is much more of a choice than people ever dream. One of modern medicine’s great breakthroughs is a realization that the body is not an object, but a process with no preordained limits.’
Deepak Chopra

So why do so many doctors rely on medication and forget to tell us how to achieve optimal health? What is it that gives top athletes, business people, and entertainers the vitalistic edge? We have liaised with many of the most inspired and informed people on earth, and the time has come to share with you some of the world’s best-kept health secrets. This book reveals information on the whole spectrum of health, including chiropractic, nutrition, and how taking medication and consuming diet drinks might be killing you! It will inspire your health and wellness ideas and may challenge some old beliefs. You are about to discover what Lleyton Hewitt, Lance Armstrong, Dr Phil, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Madonna , Mel Gibson and countless other leaders have all used to achieve excellence in their chosen fields. You see, we don’t need anymore studies to show that exercise benefits you or to prove that fresh food is better than packaged food. What we need is to understand that our health choices bear consequences that are either positive or negative.
We have so much to gain from embracing this wellness revolution — knowledge, empowerment and a better quality of life for our children, and their children. There are already millions of doctors beginning to work in partnership with chiropractors, personal trainers, and a host of new health carers. They have been inspired to question their assumptions, to look into the power of vitamins and nutrition, and keep up-to-date with research into the latest drugs and their side effects. The old ways are changing, the new way is here.

Parenting and Riots - A ‘Cry’ For Help
As a new mother; the riots recently in London; August 2011, got me watching the news with different eyes. I wanted to listen to what these people, who are someone’s children had to say. They were torn, hurt, angry and looking for attention. In interviews, they explained it was the only way of making the government listen to the message which was a call or ‘cry’ for change.

The Guardian brigade see it as social protest, the Daily Mail brigade see it as criminal outrage.
I explored the damage to the child, who is now an adult, inflicted by lack of nurture. When does parenting stop? At the age of 18? Surely not. Surely it’s a role that continues for the rest of our lives.

I said to my husband; Warren that night; “There are other ways of getting attention. Protest with balloons being let off in the air simultaneously or line up nude with signage. Others have been known to go on hunger strikes. These kinds of world making news protests don’t harm others.”

It made me feel really sorry for these rioters who whilst it’s not right, it’s real, raw emotion. Were these acts of violence from babies who had been left to cry? Did these babies become adults who, just as all the literature and research explains in the book “The Science of Parenting” by Margot Sunderland, became adults who were left with feelings of depression and other psychological problems? Have they been taught and programmed with this type of parenting that in stressful times; the only way to get attention is to do something extreme, because when you ask nicely, nobody listens anyway?

These could have been the babies that strict routine authors described as ‘naughty’ babies. Yet, were they? Or are they just all people with a birth right to be loved and nurtured no matter what time of day or night? Were these the babies that landed up vomiting to get their parents attention after crying that didn’t work? Some authors, I was really disturbed to learn explained to leave vomit towels in and around the cot because you must teach your ‘naughty baby’, that it’s not a way to get attention!

Whatever person or book lets us know this behaviour is ok, is someone who foolishly believes that babies can be ‘trained’ into sleeping, ignoring all the research on babies brains and the science of how it works. They are so desperate for sleep and ‘buy into’ a lie that helps them cope. If you choose to control cry your baby or let it cry to sleep; I shall not judge you. I believe you are doing whatever you can to get through and ‘save’ your family. I do feel sorry for those who gain information from ‘authorities’ like these authors and baby trainers though who aren’t privy to the information or responsible enough to share the sometimes chilling ramifications.

Emotional development from such a young age is crucial ~ based on scientific research. Neuronets are forming during babyhood. The frontal lobe of a child’s brain is not wired properly until around the age of 5. “Give me the boy until he is seven and I’ll show you the man.”
Current day parenting manuals and doctors encourage a technique that leaves brain damage at the emotional level - with chilling consequences. Brain damage is literally inflicted by “controlled crying” which means abandonment, despair, detachment, and is often diagnosed as depression anxiety or attachment disorder in children as young as 6 or 7.

Is anyone else concerned by this? It’s this sort of “joined up thinking”, that can make a difference to how we were brought up and perhaps we can break a pattern?

It may not be the only cause of the riots ~ very few people would accept it as such ~ but I bet that this is a contributory factor. I’d add that the socially accepted norm of giving children ~ as young as 4 ~ war games, slasher movie computer games as “entertainment” or “to keep them quiet” or taking them to see violent films while they’re years younger than the certificate ~ is misguided, delusional _ abusive actually - and shows the same lack of joined up thinking about the consequences. There is no reason why children should be undisturbed by these games ~ and deep down they are deeply disturbed.

Other factors like over prescriptions of drugs and medications that change a child’s mood and behaviour wouldn’t be of help either. Diets would be another contributing factor when brains are never fully satiated because there’s no nutritional content in our packaged foods anymore. They’re full of not only something that’s more addictive than heroin; sugar - but there are so manyy adiitives and preservatives that can cause any brain, child or adult to go a bit ‘crazy’.
But our role as parents:
We are all desperate to get some sleep, yes. The sleep we lack in the early stages may mean we have invested in a relationship with our child whereby they have had the opportunity to have all parts of their frontal lobe wired properly. The part of the brain that allows them to now cope better with stress and as an adult, does that ‘baby’ now have better coping skills and feel a deeper trust to come to you as a teenager with pressures and concerns? I wondered if by helping our babies develop at the full potential; would I be sure I wasn’t creating a ‘rioter’ for example…confused, hurt and hurting others. Imagine the sleep as that person’s mother, you’d lose then? And ‘then’ may be too late to heal or resolve.
